Days after it got a federal bailout, American International Group Inc. spent $440,000 on a posh California retreat for its executives, complete with spa treatments, banquets and golf outings, according to lawmakers investigating the company's meltdown.
IT KILLS ME THAT THE LAWMAKERS ON CAPITOL HILL SAY "YOU COST THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER MILLIONS", ARE THEY NOT TAXPAYERS ALSO? SHOULD THEY NOT BE AS ANGRY AS THE REST OF US AND DEMAND THAT SOMEONE PAY BACK THAT MONEY THEY JUST WASTED?
"Terrorists!! Kill 'em!!"
Oops. Wrong thread. </sarcasm>
As Congress wastes more than $440,000 per DAY, it appears that AIG was simply getting on the bureaucratic bandwagon and trying to become "part of the team" who slop at the public trough daily. While I believe that any employee of AIG who intentionally misled investors, government regulators or executives of AIG should be investigated and tried for fraud, the Members of Congress who got their headlines chastising AIG is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.
This is what got the Saar of Russia killed. They lived in splendor, while the rest of the people suffered, the same thing in the French Revolution the average people askedto put up guillotines. We don't need to put up the guillotine in the United states. We need government mandates as a private citizen. I can't even cheat the government for one dollar bill become in after me. But these people cheat taxpayers of billions and the government does nothing. This is the time right now voting the right person in government that will put up restrictions for corporate bandits. If we cannot fix this capitalism is going to be doomed in a very short time. The empire will be crumbling. Call it the good empire turned bad. Washington has the chance now!
I'm so confused. Economics was never my best subject, but -- do we have a free market economy or not? Isn't the basis of a free market that efficient, strong companies survive and weak ones fail?
Or, and I may be wrong, are the people losing their homes and retirement funds the free market denizens, and doomed to failure, and the COMPANIES are exempt from the rules of the marketplace because they need the help?
Oh, it is all horse manure. I'm so angry that this bailout was passed by a bunch of panicked invertebrates that I'm voting every last incumbent OUT.
You are so right however the sheep that vote in this country will continue to elect people, (I can't in good conscience call them representatives, because they represent no one but themselves) who cater only to special interests. The most shocking revelation about this crisis is the absolute lack of leadership in Washington. No one stepped to the plate to take command ( where is Al Haag when you need him).
viva revolution!
the average american is poor, can't afford insurance, can't get a loan for a car to drive to work in, lives in a house they cannot afford with mortgages that are so inflated from the housing debacle which the value of is less than half of what they will end up paying over 30 years, I mean-is this meltdown a surprise to anyone? we don't have an economy any longer, we have a federally regulated recession which is entering the realm of the great depression. Are we having fun yet??
This sickens me beyond words. How in the hell can AIG executives be so absolutely stupid! This is misappropriations of taxpayer funds and should be considered a crime! For God sake, the Government just had to bail them out because they "managed" the company right into the ground now they are celebrating by spending my tax dollars to sit in some cushy spa! Hell no! For crying out loud Congress! Get off your A— — and do something about this. People are losing their health insurance, retirement accounts have lost $2 TRILLION dollars in the last 15 months, the world is losing faith in the American free market system and these jack offs are wasting tax dollars on given to them to save their ass - NOT MASSAGE IT! FIRE THOSE IDOTS.
